My name is Maura Glynn, owner of www.cottonon.ie.
I have spent close on 27 years creating personalised embroidery gifts in a small shop in Galway city centre. This is how it all started. Ann Mellotte (the previous owner) started with a small embroidery machine above her Aunt’s shop on Shop Street in Galway many moons ago. My mother Sheila Glynn began working for her, as Ann went out on the road to drum up some more business for her new venture.
The business started to grow and Ann then moved into a shop unit in the Old Malt Mall in Galway. At 16 years old, this is where I got my first experience doing machine embroidery and where my Cotton On story began. I spend many summers and Saturdays during school term working for Ann, embroidering uniforms and selling personalised towels which was the signature product for Cotton On.
In 1991 Cotton On opened in the Eyre Square Centre and the first Christmas there I reckon everyone in Galway got a towel with their name on it. I continued to work for Ann over the years and then in October 2001 I took over ownership of Cotton On from Ann. My first Christmas 2001 as owner of Cotton On will always hold a special place in my heart. I put a lot of effort and hard work into building up the business and worked long hours to make sure that every customer was happy with their experience. Through the good times and the hard times I kept working hard along with the help of my mammy Sheila. I expanded the product range to include Baby Blankets, Children’s Bathrobes, Toddler Quilts and Teddy bears.
In May 2012 after getting married and starting a family, I decided to expand the business and I moved the embroidery equipment home. I began printing t-shirts and other garments in the Eyre Square Centre under the name Print On. The garment printing business took off immediately, after three years of successfully running two business I wanted to create a more work life balance. In December 2015 the retail unit and printing business in Eyre Square was taken over, and I got to concentrate totally on the embroidery business and creating personalised embroidery gifts which has always been my passion. So finally in 2016 I got www.cottonon.ie up and running. After many previous attempts I have taken the leap into the online world and I hope you will join me.
I would like to thank all my customers, family and friends over the years for their loyal support and look forward to creating many online friendships.
